About Us
Imbued with the Biblical teaching, inspired by the vision of the Founder, Don Giovanni Baptista and motivated by the committed life of the heavenly Patron St. Aloysius, the Indian Province of the Congregation of the Oblate Sisters of St. Aloysius Gonzaga proposes to launch a home for Senior Citizens, St. Aloysius Home, an endeavor, “first of its kind” and entirely new to the Indian milieu in an idyllic surrounding at Nambiakulam, Vedagiri Road, Kottayam Dt. Kerala.
It is an initiative taken by the Congregation with a view to helping the senior citizens to enjoy the evening of their life in the company of their peer group and to spend their time gracefully in a quiet and eco-friendly environment away from the hustle and bustle of urban conglomerations. Consequently, the Congregation set up St. Aloysius Gonzaga Charitable Trust and got it registered under No. 82/ IV/ 2017 with a view to providing service to humanity.
"Those who honor their father atone for sins, and those who respect their mother are like those who lay up treasure". (Sir 3:3-4)
To help growing old gracefully and live cheerfully.
St. Aloysius Gonzaga is a model for servant leadership. Without a lot of fanfare and expectation of recognition or fame, Aloysius quietly and humbly cared for the abandoned, vulnerable and dying. He was clearly devoted to and at the service of others. He willingly gave up all claims to wealth and power in order to follow a call that he was convinced came from God.
Finding God in a beautiful sunset or the warm smile of a loved one is fairly easy. To discover God in festering wounds and disease is much harder. St. Aloysius Gonzaga, despite his youth, has taught us to search out God in those who need our help and care. He has taught us to look beyond the external and into the heart and spirit of our fellow humans, where we will find God's love is alive in everyone.
The Congregation of the Oblate Sisters of St. Aloysius Gonzaga was founded on 15 October 1815 in the Diocese of Alba, Italy by Venerable Fr. Giovanni Battista Rubino with the vision to empower women through the help of girls ready to embrace a life of commitment to Lord Jesus Christ following the evangelical Counsels of Chastity, Poverty and Obedience. Father Rubino, inspired by the Holy Spirit, envisaged that the members of the Congregation should take care of the young girls and train them for leading a true Christian family life.
Starting with Rev. Fr. George Malieckal sending some vocations from Kerala for the Congregation on a request from Mother Gertrude through Miss. Teresa Lasagna who was sponsoring him when he was seminarian. Later Fr. Cyriac Puthenpura, his close friend started sending a few candidates to the Congregation with its headquarters in Italy. Prompted by the idea of the Holy Father conveyed through the Mother General to start activities in India, some of the sisters who took their first profession in 1965, returned to India in 1971 and started organizing the activities with their base in Bandra, Bombay.
Gradually with the help of Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Thumma, the Bishop of Vijayawada, the Congregation was able to establish its Indian headquarters in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh in 1975.
